As the local charity for people with sight loss living in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes we try and raise awareness of sight loss and its impact whenever we can. We can do this either in person or virtually.
Please find below some of the ways we do this:
BucksVision is able to offer awareness training to local professionals and groups in return for small donation. We can explain about different types of sight loss, how sight loss can be identified, equipment that benefits people with sight loss and how to guide someone with sight loss. Training involves practical exercises using simulation spectacles (which simulate different eye conditions) and a chance to try out sighted guiding. Training can be tailored to your needs but generally takes about 2-3 hours.
Staff are also able to visit local groups such as WI and U3A to give talks on sight loss and BucksVision services. These talks normally last about 45 minutes to an hour and include chances to try out simulation specs and practical demos of equipment.
Talks can be delivered with or without powerpoint presentations.
Although not directly awareness raising we can help organisations ensure their information is fully accessible to their customers with sight loss by transcribing information into an audio format (CD or USB).
There is a charge for this service which is based on the number of pages you need transcribing and number of copies you require.
Please contact us if you require further information on any of the above.
