We believe volunteering should feel simple and welcoming from the very first moment, so we’ve removed forms and unnecessary admin.
Here’s how it works:
Get in touch, we’ll get back to you within two working days
We’ll have a get to know you phone call to chat about what you’re looking for and talk through the roles
You’ll receive our Volunteer Welcome Pack and a follow-up email with next steps
If you’re happy to go ahead, we’ll invite you to a short induction session (either in-person or via Teams/Zoom, depending on your role and location)
There’s no pressure or commitment at this stage, just a chance to explore what works for you.
If you'd like to see how one of our local social groups runs before committing, we can also arrange for you to visit and meet some of our volunteers first.
Your Volunteer Induction
Your induction will cover:
The practical side of your role, what you'll be doing, when and where, and who to contact
How to support blind and partially sighted people safely and confidently
A brief introduction to different eye conditions and how sight loss can impact daily life
Some roles require additional training (such as sighted guiding), which we’ll chat through when the time comes. If your role involves one-to-one support, we’ll also carry out a DBS check as part of the process.
A Welcoming Experience
We aim to make your experience as inclusive, informative and flexible as possible and we’ll always keep you in the loop about what happens next.
Volunteers are at the heart of BucksVision. Your time, energy and kindness are what make our work possible! We’re here to make sure your experience is as rewarding as the difference you’ll make.
